My illamasqua must haves
Illamasqua are a makeup artists best friend. I constantly bang on about them in my 1-2-1 lessons and at my bridal trials when clients ask who they are or why have they heard of them in stores. As they've announced a 20% off sale over Easter, I thought I'd guide you through some of my all time favourite products that will enhance any makeup kit tenfold. Strap in!
Hilda's wedding
Hilda married last February 2016 in Kelham Hall, Nottinghamshire. Sarah from Pin Up Curl and I were in charge of bridal hair and make-up for Hilda and her lovely bridesmaids, but we had a super early start to get over to Newark. Waking up in the morning with a dusting of snow and quite thick fog was a bit of a surprise!
Top 6 picks for the Illamasqua sale
As you know if you're a reader of my blog or have ever had a 1-2-1 make-up lesson with me, I adore Illamasqua products. They are cruelty free, have a background in stage make-up (so their stuff stays put!), they have an extensive vegan collection and they actively encourage individuality - you want a deep sea blue and green lipstick? They've got it! Every year, Illamasqua have a January sale and I hold out as long as I can because now I know that they'll keep adding things as the month goes on. I hopped over on Friday to have a browse through... Go. Go now. There's some AMAZING bargains!
Radiance Veil - usually £32.00, reduced to £9.60.

So I know it’s a bit early to talk about Christmas but the time has come, and I’m feeling festive already! Maybe it’s the Christmas adverts on TV, or mince pies in the shops or the fact that Baileys in on offer EVERYWHERE! Either way, I’m feeling jolly and in the festive spirit (okay, maybe that IS the Baileys...!) so from NOW until CHRISTMAS EVE at 11.59pm, my 1-2-1 make-up lessons are going to be reduced from £65.00 to £50.00!

If you tell me that you don't want to book me for your wedding, I'll be as pleased as if you were telling me you did want me. Now don't think I don't value you as a customer; I'm gonna be a little bit sad that you don't want me, but I won't take it personally! As you've told me straight out, you're clearly my kind of customer. Let me explain...
Vogue Italia and me
It was back in January 2015 that Rozalind Williams contacted me about her idea for a shoot. She wanted to shoot portraits of a model with tense hands clutching onto items such as broken teacups, ripped up letters and scrunched up love letters. It was to be softly lit, warm tones with a romantic feel. She'd arranged for Ash Millman to be our model for the day, having fallen in love with her Cupid's bow and hair colour. And honestly, how couldn't you?!

MAC and me
"Do you use MAC make-up?"
It’s a question I get asked a lot as to what make-up brands I keep in my kit. When a potential client enquires, I go through a few names (the big brands and the smaller ones) but there’s noticeably one missing which would often be in other make-up artists’ kits. As I then say that I don't use their products, before I've had chance to explain I feel it sometimes goes against me as I then have to justify why I don’t.
Laura's spring wedding
Laura contacted me in December 2015 about her July 2016 wedding, which was lucky as it was my last available date in July 2016! She was really keen to get a trial booked in so that she could cross me off her to do list, so she came to me in February 2016. It was also neatly timed on her 30th birthday so she was truly pampered before having an evening our with her hubby to be. We changed up her lipstick though. Can you believe this woman has always been self-conscious of her lips? Her lip shape is absolutely MADE for lipstick to be applied!
Choosing your wedding makeup artist
Weddings are a big experience as well as a big expense; you’re in a place you probably won't know that well, wearing a dress and some crazy supportive/restrictive underwear! You probably won’t see your partner until you’re at the aisle, your family may cry, you’ll worry about the flowers/catering/table decorations. Being the centre of attention, everyone is watching you while you’re dancing, eating, crying and speaking. It’s one hell of an experience and can be a stressful one at that!
Hayley's wedding
Hayley and Lisa got married a year ago today! Congratulations my lovelies! I've not blogged about it yet but it's up their for one of my most memorable weddings ever.
Self Care to do list
I recently wrote up this list for BODY, the Body Dysmorphia (bdd) charity I volunteer for. Lauren the CEO asked me to write a quick list of things that are cheap/easy to do that will help you feel better about you. So if you have 5 minutes for self care or 50 minutes, there's something in here for you.
Favourite make-up brush
Man, I have so many brushes. I bought a few single ones when I started getting into makeup then my lovely friends bought me a whole roll of make up brushes and I didn’t know what many of them did; so many new and exciting things, I was gob smacked! I now have two brush 'kits' (my personal one and my professional one), and I’ve changed many around when I’ve found better quality ones. That said, I don't spend loads on my brushes; there's a few specialist brushes that I've splurged on and some have been fabulous, some have been atrocious but it's one of my mid-range brushes that's my favourite make-up brush.
Wedding make-up review
Morning lovelies! I'm currently on holiday in Malta so I'm not around right now so here's a review from one of my lovely brides in 2014/2015. I don't know who it was as it was an anonymous review from a bride who voted me to win Best Make-Up Artist in the East Midlands at the Wedding Industry Awards!

I got to know Jaye through Twitter, as a blogger with a witty tongue and kind heart. She writes passionately and loves make-up; why wouldn't I love her?! We spoke about her dissertation piece in which she had to produce a magazine, and she asked if I'd write an article for it. I really enjoyed writing it so I've copied it below but you can see all things Jaye related on her blog here. (p.s. she does some AWESOME sale posts every now and then, keep your peepers out!)

Wedding make-up is about making you look the very best version of you possible. Getting to know each other will help us come up with absolutely perfect plan for your wedding make-up, ensuring you look and feel the very best you can on your big day. When you come for your bridal trial with me, it's our time to get to know each other; you can ask me all questions about make-up as you'd like! I get a lot of questions about what to bring to a trial, so here are a few pointers.
Sugar and Vice SS16
Emma and I have both wanted to work with Gingerface for a while and when we approached her it was just after she'd announced her hiatus - would she still like to shoot with us? Her answer, YES! :D On the morning of the shoot we have a bit of a mix up with someone we were meant to be borrowing some plants from so we popped to see the lovely ladies of Lee Rosy's tea room across the street from us and asked if we could borrow their plant from the window. Here's Emma looking not so camouflaged!
Jenny and Kitty
I got my studio in Hockley with Emma of Luna Photography about three years ago now, and whilst we're not in the studio all that often at the same time we flippin' love working together when we can get in. Emma does a lot of commerical, wedding and family photography but we've also our business, Flashes and Lashes which is a makeover photoshoot experience. Whilst we're known for our pin-up/vintage styling, we absolutely love working with people who want a photoshoot to just feel good about themselves - whatever the style, we absolutely guarantee to have you smiling and feeling good when you're at Flashes and Lashes HQ.
Wedding morning tips
I've had the privilege of being at flippin' loads of wedding mornings; here's the expert advice I've picked up over time which may help you on your big day...
Bridal Photoshoot
Coral & Stone are a duo of wedding photographers (Emma & Jade) based in the East Midlands (One in Derbyshire and one in Northamptonshire!) They contacted me back in Autumn about setting up a bridal shoot and had done insane amounts of research and planning for it; they were putting together a whole team for the shoot, and was I available to be a part of it? Hell yes I was!
Make-up Shelf Life - pt 2
After my little rant a few weeks ago about mascara shelf life, I figured I'd do a little guide on the shelf life of other products that are likely to be in your make-up bag.
Amber's review
I have a lot of transgender clients, providing monthly makeovers for nights out to my one-to-one makeup lessons in order to learn how to apply make-up. There's not much I love more than hearing back from clients and getting photos of their make-up and practice runs.
Make-up Shelf Life - pt 1
There's a bazillion (yes, that's a word!) of articles for the shelf life of make-up but I don't think people really realise why it's so important.
I asked someone recently at a make-up lesson, if they had mayonnaise in the fridge that was 6 months out of date but there was still loads left in the jar, would they eat it? Answer: Hell no, and dry retch.
So damn it, why are people still using mascara on their EYES that's out of date?!
Emma's wedding
Emma messaged me about her wedding makeup but I already recognised her face; I'd worked with her before! When she was at university, I did the makeup for one of her final year projects for a photoshoot so it was lovely to hear from her last August about her wedding in January 2016. We booked in a trial and had a good catch up about what we'd both been up to since we'd worked together (which we realised was all the way back in 2011!)
Rachael's Wedding
I've known Rachael since September 1999 when I moved high school to Rhiwabon in Wrexham. We sang in choirs together, did school plays together, carol concerts, played sports, did Maths, got in trouble! We fell out of touch upon changing schools for sixth form/college but got back in touch about 6 years ago through the brilliant medium of Facebook!
She asked me to do her wedding make-up back home in Wales as soon as she got engaged to Jason; of course my answer was yes! Her wedding morning was super relaxed, and it was lovely to catch up with her family; mum Elaine and sister Charlotte. She got married in the same church we sang in as kids.
Power lipstick
Lipstick is so underated. In these cold and dark weeks after Christmas, everyone's mood slums and enthusiasm for the New Year wains ever so slightly until the days noticably get longer and payday comes around again. Last week was a washout. I felt rubbish about everything and couldn't motivate myself at all, then I beat myself up for feeling like that instead of being nice to myself. I had to nap because I was exhausted from not sleeping properly, so I wasn't kind to myself about that either! When you feel this low, it's difficult to motivate yourself. I'd flicked through my timehop in bed and came across this:
"Today is a power lipstick kinda of day."
