Wedding Make Up Interview with: Lottie and Emma

Categories: Wedding Make Up Interview

Lottie and Emma got married at the lovely Cockliffe Country House in July 2023. They'd originally planned for 2020, but then EVERYTHING happened and they postponed to 2021. Seeing how things we're in early 2021, they decided to postpone their wedding reception to 2023 so that COVID could absolutely chuff off and they would be safe in the knowledge their wedding celebrations would be as full throttle as they initially planned!

And it absolutely was, but they had damn good reason to celebrate. Not only had they dealt with the pandemic, they relocated back to Nottingham after living in London for 10 years. Lottie also underwent emergency urgent spinal surgery the week of her legal ceremony. A rough couple of years, but these two were ready to let their hair down...!

Lottie and Emma both answered these questions seperately by email so don't know what the other answered, haha!

When did you get engaged, and when did you get married? How long did it take to plan your wedding?
L: We got engaged in November 2017 and we got married in July 2023! It wasn’t supposed to take this long, we were supposed to get married in 2020 (and we all know what happened there) and had to reschedule it three times thanks to Covid and me breaking my back! But the extra years gave us the opportunity to keep adding on things we wanted to do, so it all worked out in the end.
E: I can’t remember 😂 I want to say 30th November 2019. It took about a year for most of it but then Covid took an extra 3 years of juggling!

What suppliers did you book first? Feel free to sing their praises!
L: You and Emma were the two first ones we booked! The dream team of Flashes and Lashes! I had no doubt in my mind that it had to be you and Emma (Luna Photography) because I’ve known you both for years and I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my face and photos and lo and behold, you were both the best!!
E: Venue, make up, photographer, DJ, venue stylists

How did you find me to book me? e.g. Google, social media, recommendation etc.
L: Rock City circa 2009? Haha!
E: We already knew you and wouldn’t of dreamt of choosing someone else cos you’re a badass!

Why did you book me? Did you consider doing your own makeup?
L: I didn’t consider doing my own makeup - I knew I wanted you to do it because I’d seen your work and have been here through the start of your business and it was so important to me to book you because you are not only so wonderful at your craft, but you’re also my friend and it meant a lot to me.
E: Because you are a super talented make up artist and would only trust one person with my face on my wedding day! I wanted to feel a million dollars and not have the stress of doing it myself. Plus I knew we’d have a giggle and a safe space to be super GAY

How did you find your trial makeup appointment with me?
L: Perfect. Really put both of our minds at ease and was just like catching up with a friend (which you are and it was, but even taking that out, it was so relaxing and empowering!)
E: Loved every second. I was a bit nervous I wouldn’t be able to articulate what I wanted but even with my vagueness and a few picture from Pinterest you were able to create the perfect look. You even recommended stuff I hadn’t even thought about like filling in my eyebrows and general skin care tips

Would you have changed anything about your wedding makeup?
L: My only regret is not having eyeliner 😂 but the sparkles so made up for it! Maybe more of those too (hellooooo adhd!)
E: Nothing at all. It’s the most beautiful and hot I’ve ever looked!

Any advice for someone else getting married?

L: I know it’s a massive cliche but when all is said and done, the day should be about you two and the love you share. Make it unapologetically you, bend the rules, do what brings you joy and hire your creative pals!
E: Get yourself a spreadsheet for all the planning, if you have a budget in mind make sure you add a bit extra on because there’s always going to be little bits you see and want to add in. Don’t be afraid to ask all the questions, it’s your day and you need to make sure you’re comfortable with everything. Have someone in mind (or a couple of people!) on the day that you can delegate to for those last min checks. Make sure on the day you find a quiet moment with your other half to just take a breather and soak up all the goodness because the day goes by so fast and you probably won’t see them much on the day, ironically! Don’t stress on the day, if things don’t quite go to plan people won’t even notice! And book Sali as your make up artist because she’s awesome!

"Thank you so much for being part of our special day! Ok, what we actually mean is thank you for being a bad ass bitch and making our whole day stress free!!
A special thanks for being patient with the mums and helping with their first set of false eye lashes - they both looked STUNNING.
AND DAMN WE LOOKED HOT TOO - WE MADE PEOPLE CRY WITH OUR HOTNESS!!
It's been an absolute dream working with you so if there is anything we can do to leave an official review etc then please just let us know where we can do this!
From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Emma & Lottie xxx
P.s. Thanks also for all the tits - 10/10, would recommend!"
