Hey guys :) I'll be making a proper update over the weekend when I've chance to sit still but I wanted to update about this now and separately.

My friends Paul and Ruth’s daughter Elin was born on the 22nd of July 2008. Whilst Ruth was in labour Elin suffered a catastrophic lack of oxygen to the brain and has subsequently sustained severe brain damage (Cerebral Palsy) resulting in her being profoundly and irreversibly disabled. Elin cannot walk, talk or move her limbs independently and is fed by a tube in her stomach. As the lack of oxygen affected the cortex at the back of her brain she is also visually impaired.

Elin is such a beautiful little girl whose smile could light up any room. This however is something her parents didn't see for 9 months. Thanks to stimulation with light touch and sound (the squeak of a toy chicken) Elin cracked her first 'Elvis' smile. Elin responds brilliantly to light, sound and physical contact and her parents are trying to maximise her exposure to the latest equipment and toys in these areas to aid her development and also her enjoyment.

Ruth and Elin's friend Dave is about to undertake an incredible bike journey from Canada to Mexico, along the Great Divide Bike Route (which is about 3000 miles!) all in the name of Elin to kit her out with a sensory room, which will benefit and enhance her life no end :)

To donate and see where and what Dave is up to, please visit his website below. You can also read Ruth’s journal about being a parent of a child with Cerebral Palsy on the second link. All donations are very gratefully received, and all will be rewarded with smiles from Elin.
